The Volksoper Wien was opened in 1898 as a speaking theater. At that time the name was „Kaiser-Jubiläums-Stadttheater“ and is nowadays the second biggest opera house of Vienna. The operas “Tosca” by Giacomo Puccini and “Salome” by Richard Strauss have been premiered in Vienna at the Volksoper. In 1987, the Volksoper was used as a filming location for the movie “The Living Daylights” of the James Bond film series, in which the house was presented to an international audience. Although as a part of the story the location of the building was transported to Bratislava, the capitol of Slovakia. In total over 400 singers, orchestra musicians, choir singers and dancers work together on artistic performances of the genres opera, operetta, musical and ballet.
