The most renowned boys' choir in the world can certainly look back on a long history. Boy choristers have been singing in the palace chapel in Vienna since the thirteenth century. In 1498, Emperor Maximilian I relocated his court and its musical ensemble to Vienna. Musicians such as Mozart, Salieri and Bruckner all worked at the Viennese court; and Joseph Haydn, Michael Haydn and Franz Schubert sang as boy choristers in the chapel of the Imperial Palace. What distinguishes the Vienna Boys' Choir is the charm and exuberance of its members. And now you can experience this up close for yourself, in MuTh. At their Friday Afternoons concerts – which have become a regular favourite for those "in the know" – the choirs offer us a glimpse of their rehearsal work and their latest repertoire, which ranges from motets and Lieder to world music and pop. In the second part of the programme they make music with Camerata Schulz, performing works for choir and orchestra by composers from Vivaldi to Mozart, as well as waltzes and polkas by Strauss and Lanner. And you can also look forward to one or two musical surprises.
