Once upon a time, there lived a wizard named Merlin, destined to lead humanity astray. But he defied his command and appointed Arthur king, so that Arthur could establish a Round Table, a place of equality and justice. However, this utopia began to crumble when the Knights of the Round Table clashed over power struggles, betrayals, and sordid affairs, and the new generation—embodied by Sir Mordred—ultimately challenged all previous moral principles…

Using the epic tale of Merlin, King Arthur, and the Round Table, Tankred Dorst and Ursula Ehler tell a fairy tale about the failure of utopias in this play, completed in 1980. … And if they haven't died, they are still searching for good in the world today.
