The Comédie-Française is considered the oldest national theater—founded in 1680 by royal decree of Louis XIV. As part of its anniversary season, the company is visiting us with a guest performance:

Jean Racine's BÉRÉNICE, one of the great classics of French theater literature, tells the tragic story of a pair of lovers: The Roman Emperor Titus and the Jewish Queen Bérénice are in love, but Roman law prohibits marriage. Antiochus, secretly in love with Bérénice, hopes to profit from this situation...
