Selbstbezichtigung Akademietheater - Wien Sat 06.Dec 2025 20:00 replace me !Peter Handke's SELF-ACCUSATION, premiered in 1966, represents in some ways a complementary counterpart to the preceding AUDIENCE INSULT: The audience is not attacked, but elevated to the highest authority, as if it were a court or a god. "Postulates, principles, labels, statutes, general opinions, and formulas" (Peter Handke) constitute prescriptions whose violation seems inevitable. Following the motto "He who lives is a nuisance," the text demonstrates the mistakes that accompany every path in life. Where Handke attempts not to attribute culpable behavior to personal weaknesses, Dušan David Pařízek takes the opposite approach: He takes the impersonal personally. After its premiere at Volx/Margareten in 2015 and its transfer to the Berliner Ensemble, the successful production now returns to Vienna.
