Richard, ugly and crippled, wants to "become a villain." His goal: to win the royal crown and, through it, absolute power. To this end, he will stop at nothing and kill family members and confidants, devoid of empathy or moral qualms. He, the deformed man, is surrounded by the eroticism of power and the fascination of evil: In 1593, Shakespeare created Richard III, one of the greatest seducers in theater literature, a thespian politician and cynical Machiavellian, an autocrat whose intellectual and political heirs continue to wreak havoc to this day.
