In a not-too-distant future, the bass booms night after night in the city's hottest club. Joseph, the club owner, knows how to quench people's thirst for intoxication and escapism, no matter how dark the times are—and they are dark. Because the new Chancellor plans to reinstate the death penalty as her first official act: Hard times require hard means and someone to carry them out.

After the successful production of JEDERMANN (STIRBT), Stefan Bachmann continues his work with award-winning playwright Ferdinand Schmalz. He uses the last executioner of Austria-Hungary, Josef Lang, as an opportunity to reflect on authoritarian forms of government and the thin ice on which our democracy treads.
