Alex Kristan has turned 50, or as the optimist in him puts it: "The first third of my life is over." And because his thirst for action is still greater than his nightly urge to pee, he's taking this milestone as an opportunity to treat himself to a new solo show. After all, when you suddenly find yourself in the 50+ demographic, a so-called "best ager," only a good laugh can help with the lead in your legs and the silver in your hair.

They say 50 is the new 30. Or is that just a local thing? Even if 10 p.m. becomes the new midnight, your new skincare routine doesn't have to be Voltaren instead of Nivea. It still pays to buy long-life milk. Making diet plans, dyeing your hair, whitening your teeth—all that stuff is for pop-up seniors who see crowdfunding as a detox. His motto, however, is: "Being sensible is like being dead, only before," and it resurrects the snotty old man.

Right at that pivotal point in life, the one between looking good and being looked after, one asks oneself whether everything really was better in the past, and if so, why not? Short-sightedness is now compensated for with foresight, and as long as the cake still costs more than the candles on it, one isn't old anyway.

Alex Kristan's alter egos naturally accompany him on this journey and offer advice and support when it comes to the truly essential questions in the life of a man supposedly in his prime. It's a start-up into a new phase of life, where gout or truth is the name of the game.

And the truth is, he's 42 net, that is, excluding VAT. Growing older is a very beautiful thing. Especially considering the alternative.
