STATE OF THE UNION - Eine Ehe in zehn Sitzungen

Arthur-Schnitzler-Platz 1

1070 Wien

In State of the Union, cult author Nick Hornby reveals the rich dramatic potential of a marital crisis from a multitude of angles. With sharp, rapid-fire wit, he portrays Tom—a music critic—and Louise—a doctor—as they navigate the everyday madness of their life together. Following a dry spell and an affair, they turn to couples therapy in a bid to salvage what they can. Yet we do not witness the sessions themselves; instead, we see the moments in between—both in terms of time and place. Over a "Dutch courage" drink at the pub across the street, they quickly map out the topics they are about to discuss. Through clever, fast-paced dialogue, fundamental questions about love and relationships arise quite casually. And suddenly, things are out in the open—thoughts that anyone experienced in relationships might harbor from time to time, but would almost certainly never voice aloud.
