Returning home from a masked ball where Albertine and Fridolin danced and flirted with others, the couple spends a surprisingly passionate night of love – and agrees on a momentous premise: From now on, they will tell each other everything. After the death of his palliative patient the next evening, Fridolin drifts through Vienna at night until he sneaks into a villa on the outskirts of the city for a private masked ball. There, a ritual feast of eroticism is celebrated under strict discretion. Only through the "sacrifice" of a strange woman can Fridolin leave the house. Not only his experience, but also Albertine's dream, which she recounts in the morning, reveals hidden desire.

Arthur Schnitzler began working on the DREAM NOVEL as early as 1907, but only completed it after his own marriage ended in 1925. Director Johanna Wehner, known for her precise, highly musical theater works, tells the story of people who have settled comfortably into their middle-class existence, but whose lives are suddenly invaded by something strange and threatening. Is this themselves?
