Operetta by Johann Strauß In German language with German and English surtitles
Because of its great success last season: we’re singing with you again!
It was the dazzling opening of last season—our very first sing-along of Die Fledermaus. We sang and swayed together, enjoying the melodies of Johann Strauss. Here at the Volksoper, we still look back on it fondly—and you, our audience, surely do too. At least those of you who were there! And because it was such a great success, we thought: let’s invite everyone to sing together again this year! For those who missed it last season—and of course for everyone who simply can’t get enough of experiencing operetta not just as a spectator, but as a part of the action.
From “Glücklich ist, wer vergisst” to the rousing Champagne Song—we’re looking forward to singing these immortal tunes together with you once again! You can follow the lyrics via our surtitles system, and two of our operetta characters will guide you through the evening with charm and witty humor.
Die Fledermaus is probably the most popular—and certainly the most Viennese—of all operettas: lavish parties, romantic mix-ups, conspiracies, intrigues, and a generous dose of schadenfreude. A highlight of the classical Viennese operetta tradition, it offers layered entertainment in waltz time. And when the social façade begins to crumble, everything can always be blamed on the effects of champagne—after all, in the “fiery flow of the vine,” it’s easy to go a little overboard.
