“Der Rosenkavalier”, an opera by Richard Strauss, is a three-act-opera and premiered on January 1911.Octavian loves the almost twice as old Feldmarschallin. She finds herself, feeling neglected by her husband, with Octavian in the bedroom after a ball. Shortly afterwards the cousin of the field marshal, Baron Ochs at Lerchenau, enters the room. The panicked Octavian in an attempt to camouflage puts on a dress and a wig. The Baron, who was going to get married soon and therefore wanted to ask the Field Marshal for the recommendation of a Rosenkavalier, is not able to recognize the camouflage and falls in love with the disguised Octavian. The Field Marshal recommended the baron Octavian as the appropriate Rosenkavalier. After Octavian entered the service of the baron, he fell in love with his fiancée, Sophie.
Next to his operas like Elektra and Salome, “der Rosenkavalier” is one of his best known works. Not only today, but even back then the comedy was a success. Shortly after the premiere, the opera has been put into a movie. 1926 the first silent movie premiered.
