L’elisir d’amore by Gaetano Donizetti is a musical comedy in two acts. Although Donizetti had already written 31 operas, L'elisir d'amore counted as his musical breakthrough. Since the premiere of the work, the artists used to repeatedly change the music score. In 1979 the musicologist Alberto Zedda corrected and reworked the score to a standard edition, which is mostly used today.
