"Anyone who wears sweatpants has lost control of their life," iconic fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld once claimed. A harsh judgment long since refuted by hip-hop musicians, red carpet celebrities, and hundreds of Adidas hipsters. Clothing no longer seems to be a clear marker of wealth or class. And yet, one must first be able to afford to show up in athleisure to a premiere, a graduation ball, or a wedding. Could Cinderella wear sweatpants to the ball today, and could they be the same ones she just wore to clean her stepmother's house?

Following her production of UGLINESS, director Saliha Shagasi, together with an ensemble of experts from several generations, explores questions of appearance in relation to social class.
