W. A. Mozart - Missa Solemnis Stephansdom - Wien Fri 10.Apr 2026 20:30 replace me !On an evening dedicated to Mozart, listen to his Missa Solemnis and Exsultate, Jubilate in St. Stephen's Cathedral—performed by musicians from his hometown.
The Missa Solemnis is Mozart's last complete setting of the Mass. It was only later that it was given the epithet Missa solemnis, as its festive orchestration bears similarities to the Missa solemnis genre. Compared to the Coronation Mass, composed a year earlier, in whose shadow the work is unjustly overshadowed, the Missa solemnis displays a more rigorous ecclesiastical and liturgical approach, but comparable ingenuity. The autograph score is dated March 1780, meaning it was written shortly before Mozart left Salzburg to settle in Vienna. The solemn concert is complemented by the radiant Exsultate, Jubilate. It is one of Mozart's most famous church works, in which a bell-like soprano can show off all her skills.
The Hallein Chamber Orchestra and the Amadeus Choir Salzburg, along with renowned soloists conducted by Moritz Guttmann, will perform the works in the cathedral. Look forward to a jubilant evening in St. Stephen's Cathedral.
