Irish Celtic reveals Ireland's true elixir of life – dance and music in their millennia-old tradition. Both have always played a special role in Irish life: even the Druids passed on their ritual circle dances from generation to generation, and even today there are plenty of occasions on the Emerald Isle to dance and make music together. Whether at weddings, christenings or funerals, dance and music are an integral part of everyday life and an expression of the Irish way of life.

The main role in Irish Celtic is therefore played not only by the tap dance ensemble or the live band, but by the dance and music themselves. Accompanied by the traditional Irish band, some of the best dancers in their genre transport you to the Emerald Isle with rousing tap dance choreographies. A rousing mixture of Celtic mysticism and infectious Irish joie de vivre to the fascinating sounds of Celtic-Irish music – from classic Irish folk songs and fairy-tale melodies to exuberant dance music.

    Irish music: modernity and tradition
The excellent tap dance ensemble and Irish band perform the most famous evergreens of Irish music together. Sometimes graceful and light as a feather, sometimes energetic and spirited, the dancers whirl across the stage and transport the audience to a culture where conviviality is a matter of course and hospitality is a matter of honour. This ancient tradition of Irish dance and music lives on, especially in the ‘public houses’, the famous Irish pubs. This is where modernity and tradition meet, and so it is no coincidence that the historic pub ‘Irish Celtic’, owned by the old roughneck Paddy, provides the stylish setting for this atmospheric journey into the soul of Ireland. This traditional pub has seen a lot, as its owner enthusiastically recounts: with captivating humour, Paddy guides us through the history of Ireland, its myths and legends – from its Celtic origins to the present day – with seemingly endless anecdotes.

    Irish dance: Dance is life
Stories written by life itself also shape typical Irish dance: from its roots in the time of the Druids to the influences of the Normans, Scotland and Brittany, to the emergence of solo dances in the late 18th century by the so-called dance masters. It was these travelling dance teachers who established new forms of dance in rural areas in exchange for free board and lodging and engaged in exciting dance competitions. This is also where the unmistakable tap dance originated: footwork and rhythm alone were to be the focus of the competitions – with the distinctive posture of a straight upper body and close-fitting arms. To this day, dance competitions are an important part of Irish dance, and céilí dances are more than ‘just’ typical Irish group dances: actually the name for cheerful dance parties, the term goes back to social gatherings at crossroads, where people met after work was done – and danced together.
