    Children's Opera after Otfried Preußler

    Children's Opera from 6

Note: this production depicts topics like fighting, injustice, exclusion and punishment.

The little witch is only 127 years old - and therefore not allowed to attend Walpurgis Night!

Without further ado, she gets on her broom with her talking raven Abraxas and secretly mingles with the big witches. But she is discovered and has to prove that she is a "good" witch. On her journey, she experiences turbulent adventures, helps people and animals - and finally asks the all-important question: What does it actually mean to be good?

Christiane Lutz tells the story of the little witch as an imaginative adventure between rebellion and self-discovery. At the center of the story is a young heroine who refuses to accept that others are in control of her - and who develops her own moral compass.

The production unfolds a colorful world full of surprising encounters: from the witches' dance on the Blocksberg to the market bustle, from the wintry snowman to the big witch test. It combines humorous scenes with poetic moments and creates spaces in which reality and magic playfully intertwine.

The result is a lively theater experience that takes the little witch's perspective seriously and at the same time inspires the young audience's imagination - with strong images, speed and a lot of heart.

Franz Wittenbrink's music combines catchy melodies with stylistic diversity and great narrative clarity. Songs, ensembles and choral scenes pick up on the different settings of the plot and give each episode its own sound space - from lively market scenes to the atmospherically dense Walpurgis Night.

At the same time, the music portrays distinctive characters: the stubborn little witch, the clever and sometimes skeptical Abraxas or the shrill big witches. Recurring motifs and musical contrasts make their development audible.

The score is deliberately aimed at a young audience without losing any of its musical sophistication: It invites you to join in, empathize and recognize - and playfully opens up access to the world of opera.

With "The Little Witch", Otfried Preußler created one of the best-known and most popular classics of German-language children's literature. Since its publication in 1957, the book has inspired generations with its unmistakable tone, humor and quiet seriousness.

At its center is a character who questions the rules and develops his own concept of "good" - a theme that is still relevant today. The story combines fairytale elements with everyday situations and tells of moral courage, empathy and the courage to stand up for what is right.

The opera version transfers these qualities to the stage and makes them tangible for a new audience. It shows: Big questions can also be dealt with lightness, humor and imagination.
