Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s world-famous tale The Little Prince becomes a poetic dance journey about friendship and love in Adi Hanan’s choreographic world premiere, set to music by Claude Debussy.
It is a work that can be found on almost everyone’s bookshelf: Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince, published by the author in exile in New York in 1943. A poetic and magical story about friendship, love and realising that “adults are strange”, which became one of the most famous literary works, selling more than 80 million copies and being translated into 180 languages.
In Adi Hanan’s world premiere to a variety of compositions by Claude Debussy, it is the Pilot, the symbol of the adult world, who undergoes an inner transformation. For him, his encounter with the Little Prince sets off a process of rediscovery: he reconnects with himself and with what he seems to have lost by becoming an adult. The story becomes a journey through adolescence – or rather of rediscovering memories. The trip unfolds through the eyes of the Little Prince in a fantasy world of dance and colours. Meetings with different characters and personalities shape the journey and open ever new perspectives.
Set to various compositions by Claude Debussy, specially arranged for the ballet, a poetic, delicate yet energetically powerful musical collage emerges. It gives sound and space to the moods and emotions of the Little Prince and his encounters, thus providing an ideal foundation for the choreography.
Among the works featured are the Petite Suite, the Toccata from Pour le Piano, the Suite Bergamasque, and the Danses for harp and string orchestra.
The choreographer Adi Hanan was a member of the Vienna State Ballet ensemble from 2020 to 2025. Now working as a freelance artist, she is fully dedicated to creation. She has already demonstrated her choreographic talent several times in productions of the Vienna State Ballet.(Source: nest.at)
