Over the course of a season, the CityLab - a cross-generational community ensemble - developed its own music theater performance.
Inspired by Béla Bartók's opera Duke Bluebeard's Castle, they improvised, built scenes, developed music and new dramaturgies and related the content and themes of the opera to their own lives. This resulted in their own piece, which will celebrate its premiere at NEST in June 2027.
With touching arias and choruses, gripping monologues and choreography, the ensemble presents images of curiosity, secrets, control, love and mistrust. And they explore the big question: What lies behind the seventh door?
