A musical journey through European Christmas traditions:
Medieval carols from England, France, and Italy (13th–16th c.), including Lullay: I saw, Dormi bel Bambin, and Entre le bœuf et l’âne gris.Renaissance polyphony and sacred songs: William Byrd’s Lulla, lullaby, my sweet little baby and Praetorius’ Joseph, lieber Joseph mein.
Early Baroque instrumental art: Biagio Marini’s symphonies and dances, Johann Schop’s galliard, and Froberger’s refined keyboard music.
Beloved melodies reimagined: Greensleeves / What Child is this? and Spanish Villancicos from the Cancionero de Upsala.
An evening full of sonic intimacy – between sacred devotion, folk tradition, and festive instrumental brilliance of the 13th to 17th centuries.
