70 Years of Egerländer Musikanten – The Era Continues

On their grand anniversary tour, they not only bring decades of musical history with them – but also a new musical director. Alexander Wurz leads the Egerländer tradition into the future with a fresh sound and his own unique style. And even though the "Original Egerländer Musikanten" continually reinvent themselves, the orchestra stands like no other for lived musical continuity, precise craftsmanship, and brass music of the highest caliber.

Since its founding by Ernst Mosch in 1956, the "Original Egerländer Musikanten" have made a name for themselves worldwide. Mosch shaped their signature, emotional, yet swinging sound. Over the past 25 years, Ernst Hutter has led the orchestra into the 21st century with his own arrangements and a new generation of soloists. With "his Egerländer musicians," his perseverance, and his vision, he paved the way for the enthusiasm for brass music that can be felt everywhere today, across all generations. Now, with Alexander Wurz, the next step is underway: The 39-year-old tenor horn player and conductor, himself a member of the orchestra for 15 years, was chosen by Ernst Hutter as his successor. With him, the ensemble remains true to its tradition—while simultaneously fully rooted in the here and now.

Wurz is doing what Mosch and Hutter did before him: developing the orchestra with a sense of tradition, providing new impetus—and carrying the music passionately into the future.
