The young writer Kostya plans to stage his latest play. His girlfriend Nina stars in the lead role. But the premiere goes disastrously wrong: His mother Arkadina, herself a famous actress, ridicules the text and the performance, Nina falls in love with the successful author Trigorin, who is in the audience, and decides to live with him. Many years later, when Kostya has become a successful writer himself, Nina—abandoned by Trigorin—suddenly reappears in his life. In the end, she leaves him a second time—and he takes his own life. THE SEAGULL is a play about the roles we play in life and on stage, and the power of art, which ultimately clashes with reality.
