TURN is an immersive soirée consisting of conversation, music, and dance, in which rules, ranks, and conventions are twisted and reinvented. The evening takes the birth year (1825) of the Viennese waltz king, Johann Strauss, as its starting point for a rapid dance through the centuries, focusing on 200 years of survival under capitalism. The waltz, with its circular movements and social interactions as a symbol of change, becomes a central motif in the search for a way out and alternatives to this system. In collaboration with composer Ethan Braun and the soloist ensemble Kaleidoskop, Gob Squad opens the theater doors and invites the outside world to join them on the dance floor. Repeatedly, guests and performers are encouraged to swap places, and guests and performers find themselves in new constellations. Every encounter becomes an opportunity to challenge existing conditions and try out new forms of social interaction. TURN is a social sculpture and the utopia of a community in which everyone has a place. – Let the tables turn!
World premiere on September 25, 2025, in the Burgtheater's KASINO as part of Johann Strauss 2025.
