It is a place of extreme social contrasts: luxury on the lower floors, misery in the attic. Roth paints a fascinating, uncompromising picture of homelessness, postwar chaos, and social change, culminating in a symbolic fire. Following their successful production of WOODCUTTING, Nicholas Ofczarek and the Musicbanda Franui present an adaptation of Roth's text, interwoven with hits from operetta music between 1900 and 1935. In this new interpretation, abysses, catastrophes, and tragedies lurk behind every cheerful melody.
