    Ephraim Kishon and Friedrich Torberg—two Austrian-Jewish bestselling authors who, as survivors of National Socialism, shared a similar fate and maintained what was perhaps the most amusing correspondence in literary history for over two decades. Kishon owed his overwhelming success in the German-speaking world to Torberg's translations, and Torberg, in turn, owed Kishon the solution to his financial problems. Thus, the two became allies, friends, argued, reconciled, and wrote each other letters that are highly personal testimonies to a serious yet witty exchange.
