    The opera, Elektra, which was born out of the friendship between Hugo von Hofmannsthal and Richard Strauss, is regarded as his most successful opera today. The libretto is based on the work with the same name by Sophocles approximately 413 B.C and plays in the palace of Mykene after the Trojan War ended.
